I won't beg Osimhen to play for Super Eagles — Head Coach Finidi George.

Super Eagles' head coach, Finidi George, stated that he won't plead with the team's star player, Victor Osimhen, to participate in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers. This statement follows widespread criticism of the Super Eagles' disappointing performance, placing fifth in their six-team group.

The Super Eagles failed to secure victories in their first four matches against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Benin in the qualifiers. Finidi, reflecting on the challenges of his initial weeks in charge, mentioned the lack of support from the NFF and criticized the players' commitment to the national team.

A source told Score Nigeria that Finidi used Osimhen as an example to highlight the lack of dedication among top players to the Super Eagles. Osimhen was absent from two crucial qualifiers, officially due to a four-week injury.

"Finidi said the Napoli striker could have still managed to play these matches. The coach added that it seems Osimhen chooses when to play for Nigeria, and he cannot beg him to represent his country," the source revealed.

The former Enyimba coach also lamented the breakdown of discipline within the team and expressed his frustration with players arriving casually at the training camp for critical qualifiers.

He also noted that many players have the support of influential NFF Board members, making it challenging to enforce discipline as he was often warned that certain players were protected by powerful figures.
