Protesters on Friday, clashed with the police as they attempt to break through Tesla's factory in Gruenheide near Berlin, Germany.
According to report, protesters ran through the forest towards the Tesla company premises to protest against the expansion of the electric vehicle maker Tesla as they claim that the expansion of the Tesla German plant would damage the environment, with some engaging in clashes with police while attempting to breach the plant. Rail traffic between Erkner and Fürstenwalde had to be temporarily halted.
The group claims to shed light on environmental devastation that can take place in the cause of lithium mining for the electric vehicle, Tesla.
Earlier this year, the company was forced to close for at least a week when there was a power outage which some group of the activists claimed that they were responsible for that act, this happened in March this year.
As lithium is a crucial resource for electric vehicle batteries, the Disrupt group seeks to draw attention to the negative impacts of its extraction on these regions' ecosystems.
Disrupt group argues that Musk's intentions to increase Tesla's sole European factory's production capacity by over twofold would harm the nearby environment. They argue that such expansion would necessitate clearing large sections of the surrounding forest and exacerbate pressure on the local water supply. The group has organized four days of protests, commencing on Wednesday, to voice their opposition to these plans.
Earlier this week, Tesla announced that it would temporarily close the factory for one day on Friday, though they did not provide a specific reason for the shutdown.
The police confirmed that the protesters tried to enter the plant's premises, but were prevented, with several people taken into custody, and that it received a few reports of injuries.
Some of the demonstrators have damaged a few Tesla cars using pyrotechnics and paint at a nearby car storage site, the police spokesperson added.
